Hervé Télémaque (1937-2022)

The artist associated with the narrative figuration movement passed away on November 10 at the age of 85. He integrated very early in his painting and his assemblages playful imagery inherited from pop art and comics, and strongly impregnated with his Haitian origins.

Hervé Bize, who opened his gallery in Nancy, Lorraine 30 years ago, has shown that Parisian centralism is not written in stone and that an alternative is possible. Eastern France is his base to conquer the world.

The painter from Sète was elected as Chair IV of the painting section, previously occupied by Jean Cortot (1925-2018). As for the American photographer, she joins the institution as a foreign associate member, a title previously held by the Chinese-American architect Leoh Ming Pei.

Each year, the section of the fair dedicated to the French art scene picks a guest curator to select artists' projects proposed by the participating galleries. Hervé Mikaeloff, advisor to LVMH, has been chosen for the 2021 edition, which will be held at the Champ-de-Mars on April 8-11.

With 100-odd paintings and drawings, this new retrospective at the Musée du Petit Palais in Paris explores different aspects of the work of this landscape painter, a forerunner and rebel in several respects.
