Guillaume Fouace (1837-1895)

Over 150 pieces coming from the descendants of one of Martin-Guillaume Biennais' daughters are up for sale, ranging from silverware to goldwork and sculptures.

Paris's oldest museum has reopened in a completely refurbished building, where the collections are now strikingly set off. For its director, both everything and nothing has changed at the Carnavalet.

He replaces Emma Lavigne, who left for the Pinault Collection. The self-taught critic and curator has been in charge of programming at La Verrière, in Brussels, since 2013. His project for the Palais de Tokyo: to make it a "reactive, indeterminate, slightly wild place, sensitive to societal issues."  

Martin-Guillaume Biennais (1764-1843) promoted French imperial propaganda, notably through his "Napoléonides" series. Several previously unknown pieces will be revealed at the sale of a group of works hailing from the artist's descendants.

Founded in 1904 as a museum for Spanish and Portuguese art, the Hispanic Society of New York has appointed Guillaume Kientz as its new director. Kientz wants to demonstrate that the museum is not just "Old Masters", as he seeks to connect it with the art of the 20th and 21st centuries and to its Latino neighborhood.

The Velázquez and El Greco scholar & former curator at the Louvre was named director of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library. The institution has one of the world's greatest collections of Spanish art & literature, yet is facing financial difficulties and has been closed since 2017 for renovations. (NY Times)
