Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the European Commission announced the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture winners: Town House – Kingston University by Grafton Architecture, Dublin (who will get €60,000) and La Borda Cooperative Housing by Lacol Arquitectura Cooperativa, Barcelona for the Emerging Architecture prize.

A glass building designed in 1952 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe has been adapted for contemporary use by Thomas Phifer and Partners and completed at Indiana University in Bloomington, over 50 years after the death of the German-American architect. The 60 x140 ft two-story building is typical of his modernist style.

Organized by the  Fundació Mies van der Rohe, the prize is awarded biannually to the best architecture project completed in the EU. The jury said the finalists were chosen as they all offer “models and references for local city policies”. The winner will be announced at the end of April.
