Adriaen Ysenbrandt (1480-1551)

The Hungarian institution has announced the acquisition of a painting by the 17th-century Dutch master of still life painting, Adriaen Coorte. Dating to the very end of his career, the artwork features strawberries in a Wan-Li bowl, his favorite motif. The work was purchased for $2 million at auction in New York.

The November 14 auction made history with three world records for works by Bernardino Luini (€2.3 M) and Adriaen Hanneman (€258,800) and for a work on paper by Gustave Doré (€119,600). In addition, Versailles bought a portrait of Louis XIV by the understated Pierre Rabon for €19,500.

Confirmed as belonging to the Lombard painter's small body of work, this panel set a world record and encouraged visitors to discover other Old Masters.
