Not seen on the market for nearly forty years, a landscape of Éragny attests to Camille Pissarro's assiduous attention to the motif of the changing seasons.

Though the Pissarro family were forced to move to Éragny-sur-Epte in 1884 due to financial difficulties, the painter never regretted it, for there he found an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Following his exhibition at the Durand-Ruel Gallery in January 1892 - his first real success - he was delighted to be able to become the proprietor of his own house; the dealer lent him a share of the required 15,000 francs, while the largest share was generously donated by his friend…
