A recurring theme in Kisling's work, the mimosa lends itself to impasto and harmonious coloring like no other flower. The painter created this sunny bouquet shortly after moving to the South of France.

Although mimosas began to appear in his work in the 1920s, they really took on a prominent role from 1937, when he moved into Villa La Baie, the house he built in Sanary-sur-Mer.
