TL-TESTED TWO COURTLY LADIES
Glazed ceramic with painting
China, Northern Wei dynasty (385-535)
A very rare type of Song-era, unglazed ceramic. The biscuit is strikingly light and was fired at a higher temperature than the usual Tang ceramics. Very static, straight posture that radiates a certain refinement. Distinctive painting limited only to the most important elements: dark hair, finely painted face, ribbons on the clothing.
