"Virgin of the Annunciation” Carved and gilded wooden sculpture. Catalan School. Girona. Gothic. Late 15th century.
Also known as “Virgen de la Cinta” or “Esperanza” (Hope), or “Our Lady of the O”, this name corresponds to the images of Mary whose carving portrays a state of gravity. Magnificent sculpture which shows the sweet expectation of Mary on hearing that she will be a mother. Giving blessing with her right hand, while an unequivocal gesture brings her left hand to her pregnant belly. She is standing, wearing rich, courtly dress.
Height: 150 cm.
