A Romanesque champlevé enameled and gilt copper figure of a Christ. Limoges. France. Circa 1200. Magnificent Corpus on which practically all the original gilding is preserved, as well as the enamel which decorates the long loin cloth in turquoise and dark blue tones. He is crowned, with the head slightly to one side and with long locks of finely chased hair. His eyes appear to be a sapphire and a piece of jet. In the centre of the chest a piece of coral mounted on silver has been attached, possibly at a later date, representing a heart. There has been some soldering done on the left arm, with three reinforcing rivets having been placed there. There is also a soldered crack with rivets between the two feet. 18,5 x 15 cm. Provenance: acquired in Sotheby's on 7/12/1989 in London.
