Wooden filing chest covered in porcupine quills and inlaid with bone. Indian colonial work. 19th century.
The interior is formed by a removable compartment divided into seven small drawers with a lid. The inside of the lid, which can also be removed, is decorated with painted bone depicting two lions rampant holding their standards (possibly the British flag) surrounding a hibiscus. On the bottom is the inscription "Matara No 12".
