Le 5 juillet, l'Algérie en liesse a fêté la proclamation de son indépendance. Pourtant, le 30 novembre, rien ne semble pouvoir réconcilier les deux vieillards assis, maussades, sur un banc de Bab-El-Oued: un pied-noir, resté vivre dans ce qui est depuis longtemps devenu sa patrie, et un ancien combattant musulman du FLN.

Nevertheless, on November 30, nothing seems able to reconcile the two gloomy old men sitting on a bench in Bab-El-Oued: a Pied-Noir, who had remained in this country that had long since become his homeland, and a former FLN Muslim fighter.
