Historical and political voyage to Montenegro. 2 vol. in-8 (20.5 × 12 cm), blue half calf, ornate ribbed spine, marbled edges (period binding). First edition of one of the earliest descriptions of this small autonomous principality between the Adriatic and the Ottoman Empire. Vialla de Sommières (1764-1849) was governor of Cattaro from 1807 to 1813, during the French occupation of Dalmatia. It is illustrated with a folding map and 12 out-of-text figures, all copper-engraved and watercolored. Some foxing. Minor rubbing to the spine.
