First edition of one of the earliest descriptions of this small autonomous principality between the Adriatic and the Ottoman Empire. Vialla de Sommières (1764-1849) was governor of Cattaro from 1807 to 1813, during the French occupation of Dalmatia.
It is illustrated with a folding map and 12 out-of-text figures, all copper-engraved and watercolored.
Some foxing. Minor rubbing to the spine.
