Paris, Cuchet, 1787. 3 vol. in-8 (21 x 14 cm), paperback, covers muted. Second edition of the French translation of Letters from an American Farmer, published in London in 1782. The work is decorated with a copper-engraved frontispiece, 4 folding maps and a title vignette for each volume. An important work belonging to the classics of literature on America. Presented in the form of travel narratives, the Lettres offer an interesting description of 18th-century America, at the time of Independence, and whose narrative largely contributed to the construction of an idealized image of this continent in the West. The work is complete with a fold-out frontispiece, two large copper-engraved fold-out maps and two hors-texte plates. Some foxing, notably on the frontispiece.
