[AMERICANA] Late 18th - early 19th c. Reunion of four travel books on North America. - CREVE-CŒUR (Michel-Guillaume-Jean). Lettres d'un cultivateur américain adressées à W. S. Paris, Cuchet, 1787. 3 vol. in-8 (21 x 14 cm), paperback, covers muted. Second edition of the French translation of Letters from an American Farmer, published in London in 1782. The work is decorated with a copper-engraved frontispiece, 4 folding maps and a title vignette for each volume. An important work belonging to the classics of literature on America. Presented in the form of travel narratives, the Lettres offer an interesting description of 18th-century America, at the time of Independence, and whose narrative largely contributed to the construction of an idealized image of this continent in the West. Second cover of volume I missing, first cover of volume II detached, first cover of volume III with tears, wetness on the head of the pages of volume 1, tear with lack in the lower margin of page 164 of volume 1, second map of volume 2 with tear without lack, pages 145 to 160 of the second volume wet, pages of the last quire Oo pierced without affecting reading. - WARDEN (D. First edition of the French translation of this work, originally published in 1819, offering an exhaustive description of the American states through the prism of their history, topography, flora and fauna, legislation, customs, commerce and industry... The work is complete with a fold-out frontispiece, two large copper-engraved fold-out maps and two hors-texte plates. Some foxing, notably on the frontispiece. Provenance Blue heraldic wetstamp on faux-titres. - PRIEST (William). Travels in the united states of America; commencing in the year 1793, and ending with the author's journals of his two voyages across the Atlantic. London, J. Johnson, 1802. 1 vol. in-8 (22.5 x 14 cm), blue paper boards. First edition of this travel account, reporting experiences and observations of America at the end of the 18th century. The work is adorned with a colored copper-engraved frontispiece by the engraver Benjamin Smith. Spine rubbed, minor foxing, title page browned. - LE BEAU (Claude), Aventures du Sieur C. Le Beau [...] ou voyage dans l'Amérique Septentrionale [...]. Amsterdam, Herman Uytwerf, 1738. 2 vols. in-12 (15.6 x 9.2 cm) speckled calf, smooth spine, red morocco title-piece (period binding). Original edition with copper-engraved fold-out map and 5 hors-texts. In the guise of a travelogue and adventure novel, the author describes his stay in Canada, during which he made observations on the indigenous Huron and Iroquois peoples, which he relates in this work. Pages 162, 163, 166, 167, 170, 171, 174, 175 unprinted, a few wormholes, tear not missing on p. 3 and on plate p. 182, p. 312 map partially detached.
