Spanish Jesuit and naturalist José d'Acosta, born in Medina del Campo around 1539, died in Salamanca on February 15, 1600. He was sent to the West Indies as second provincial of the Jesuit order in Peru, and worked tirelessly to convert the Indians.
His Histoire naturelle et morale des Indes (Natural and Moral History of the Indies), his most important book, was a great success and was translated into many languages (last Spanish edition in 1792). Binding a little worn, stain at head, weak solidarity of body of work and cover. Correct inside.
