"Mr. Gustav Sobbe in recognition of his services to the festival on board the ship 'V. L.' in the port of Singapore March 4, 1904 The Voigtsche Liedertafel". Album with 35 on card. (each ca. 11 x 15 cm) photogr. (silver gelatin prints), ca. 1904. qu.8°. Cloth (rubbing, backstrip renewed). Gift present for the sailor Gustav Sobbe, probably the organizer of a costume party on board a ship named with the initials "V. L.", which lay in the port of Singapore in March 1904. The crew organized a costume party on board, to which representatives of the island state were also invited, posing in their traditional costumes in front of Asian-style paravans. There are also group shots of the crew (including sailors from the "S. M. S. Olga") and presumably of honorable trade representatives, who were apparently also invited. The party probably also had the character of a vaudeville evening in parts (one portrayed man wears a sign around his neck with the inscription "Ventriloquist", another with a top hat in the guise of a magician is flanked by two extras in bizarre crocodile costumes). - Some images somewhat faded and slightly rubbed.
