BELGIAN WORK (XX)
Triangular-shaped front panel in sheet aluminum, 1958
(Scratches, wear)
H. 195 cm. - L.: 140.5 cm. - D.: 5 cm. Provenance :
- Atomium, Brussels, Belgium
Note:
The Atomium was designed by engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak for the 1958 Universal Exhibition. In 2004, the skin of the Atomium was completely removed and 1,000 triangular plates of the old spheres were put up for sale to finance the purchase of new metal cladding. The original aluminum was abandoned in favor of stainless steel, recognized as more resistant to corrosion and more insulating against noise.
