A Louis XVI ormolu-mounted mahogany and speckled mahogany veneer chest of drawers. Red marble top. Bibliography: to be compared with an example reproduced in Pierre Kjellberg, "Mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle", Editions de l'Amateur, Paris, 1989, page 75. "A former free-lance worker, Bircklé became a master on July 30, 1764. He worked on rue de Charenton and then rue Saint-Nicolas. He worked for Marie-Antoinette at the Château de Saint-Cloud, for Madame Elisabeth in Montreuil and for the Duc d'Orléans. He appears to be a conscientious cabinetmaker, seeking decorative effect rather than luxury and preciousness. He also produced furniture that was simpler and not particularly elaborate, but always of good quality." in Pierre Kjellberg, Mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle.
