JAMMES (Francis) and GODOY (Armand). 2 LAS and a poem. - JAMMES (Francis). LAS to Cuban-born poet Armand Godoy, dated May 18, 1928. 3 pp. in-4. Beautiful, mystical letter. Jamme moralizes, advises, empowers and reassures his friend: "What has life done to you to make you blaspheme in this way? I assure you it's not that. You are, I am, he is, we are, they are old parchments, the skin on which we write with the refined details of sin the refinement of the corresponding torment (...). He is not the executioner, we are (...)". Jammes evokes a "contagious demon" that "leaves like [the magazine] Commerce propagate"... - JAMMES (Francis). LAS to Armand Godoy, dated August 6, 1934. 3 pp. in-4. A letter at once poetic, mystical, friendly and critical: "No new news from you could give me more joy (...). I trust in God (...). You have to wait, but you know that as well as I do, now that you profess to be a Catholic (...). I read an issue of Marianne whose editor [Emmanuel] Berl is a Jew who makes mechanical beds. It smells of sulfur. The Antichrist is not far off". - GODOY (Armand). Autograph signed prose poem, dedicated to Francis Jammes. 1 p. in-4. "Your evocative Caravelle has transplanted me both to the wild, fragrant landing stage of my childhood dreams and to the dazzle of your beloved Basque landscape. (...) And here I am nestled on your harmonious heart, my forehead caressed by your patriarchal beard." Expert: Ségolène Beauchamp
