Bronze proof with a beautiful brown-red patina shaded with green. Early edition cast by DELAFONTAINE signed. Trace of the AD stamp under the base.

History: Mr. Richarme and Mr. Poletti, editors of Barye's catalog raisonné, state on page 89 of their work that Delafontaine acquired a bronze and plaster model for the edition, and that they estimate "the number of proofs made during the sculptor's lifetime at around ten. The reality of the edition is that of A. Delafontaine".
