Napoleon Eugène Louis Jean Joseph Bonaparte. Prince Impérial, known as Louis-Napoléon, was born in Paris on March 16, 1856 and died on June 1, 1879 in Ulundi, Zululand (South Africa). He was the only son of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French, and his wife, Empress Eugénie de Montijo. In 1870, he followed his mother into exile in England. Having joined the British troops in southern Africa, he was killed in battle against Zulu warriors. Called Louis by his parents, he signed Napoléon after his father's death on January 9, 1873, instead of Louis-Napoléon previously. He was sometimes referred to as Napoleon IV and nicknamed "Loulou".
