China, a bronze figure of a Manjushri, Ming Dynasty, 15th-16th Century with elaborate jewelry, robe, flanked by two lotus flowers and a lion at its feet. Seated in meditation, padmasana on a double lotus throne. With remnants of guilding. At the base eight Chinese characters, marking the family name of the consigners. Text reads in broad lines: this statue is made in comission of a family (Chen) for gratitude (for received happiness) and for respect (for the respected Deity) h. 27 cm. Provenance: Paul Rutten Asiatic & Tribal Art, Amsterdam, 1998. Collection Asiatic Art from Erik Maten en Hans van der Veer, Deventer, Holland.
