NOTE
The irruption of traditional Iznik ceramic motifs into French earthenware in the 19th century is most certainly due to the massive arrival of several hundred Iznik pieces in one of the prestigious museums of the time. Théodore Deck, Edmond Lachenal, Boch Frères Kéramis, Zsolnay, Cantagalli, Émile Gallé, Samson... seized on Iznik's ornamental repertoire to produce original designs with the addition of new color palettes. The so-called "Rhodes" style is attested to by Boch Frères as early as 1883, since the first pieces in this series were presented at the Amsterdam World's Fair that same year. The BFK catalog of 1887 already shows a majority of "Rhodes" pieces with floral decorations of tulips, hyacinths, carnations and Saz leaves arranged in tendrils, found on Ottoman-inspired dishes, plates, platters, bottles, jugs, pitchers, etc.
