Lodovico Carracci (1555 - Bologna - 1619) - 2 sheets. Madonna and Child surrounded by angels - Mary with the Child Jesus and the Infant John Etching on laid paper. (Circa 1595/1610), (1604). 16.4 x 11.5 cm and 21.1 x 13.7 cm (sheet size). Bartsch XVIII, 24, no. 2 and no. 25; Bohlin 3 I (of III) and 4 II (of II). Excellent, even and fine-lined impressions, sheet 1 in a very rare early impression, before the addresses of Orlandi and van Aelst. Each trimmed close to the platemark. - Paper slightly stained and minimally darkened. Sheet 1 with a backed loss and a paper thinning in the lower margin on the verso as well as a mounting strip on the verso, otherwise in good condition due to its age. Rare, Bohlin only knows a total of four etchings by the artist! Provenance: Johann Melchior von Birckenstock (1738-1809), Vienna and Frankfurt a. M. (Cabinet Brentano-Birckenstock), with the stamp (Lugt 345) on the verso; Collection Heinrich Brockhaus (1804-1874), Leipzig, since then in family possession.Taxation: differential taxation (VAT: Margin Scheme)ne ony lots.
