First edition of this verse translation of the first seven books of Ovid's Metamorphoses.
It is the work of two poets from Agen: the physician Raymond de Massac, who died in 1603 and wrote, among other works, a poem on the Fontenes de Pougues, and his son Charles, a lawyer at the Parlement de Paris, who was an early associate of his father's work.
The Massac translation contains a large number of interesting and pleasant verses.
A copy that belonged to Frédéric Lachèvre (1855-1943), bibliographer and specialist in 16th and 17th century poetry, with his bookplate.
Staining affecting the first 4 leaves, including the title. Old call number stamped in black ink on the title (faded) and on the seventh leaf. Volume slightly detached from spine, circular marks on first cover.
