In-4, limp vellum, remnants of laces (19th-century binding).
First and only edition of Pantaléon Thévenin's commentaries on Du Bartas' Semaine. It features a woodcut vignette for each day, and 2 fold-out tables.
A humanist from Lorraine, Pantaléon Thévenin was a tutor and lecturer at the University of Pont-à-Mousson, and is known for his commentary on Ronsard's Hymne de la philosophie (1582).
Thévenin wraps the text of the Sepmaine in the manner of the great Italian commentators who set those pure jewels that are the Divine Comedy or the Canzoniere (J. P. Barbier-Mueller).
Marginal staining to title and a few leaves, bottom corner of first 3 leaves slightly nibbled. Stained vellum.
