Les Rois et ducs d'Austrasie, translated into French. Coulongne, 1591. Small in-4, porphyry calf, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, green title page, interior roulette, speckled edges (18th-century binding).
First edition in French, translated by Dijon physician François Guibaudet. It follows the original Latin version published the same year at the same address.
Illustrated with the same 63 fine medallion portraits of the Dukes of Lorraine, engraved on copper by Pierre Woeiriot: here, the portrait of Charles III, bareheaded, is in second state.
From the Roger Paultre library (1993, no. 66).
As on many copies, the date on the title page has been altered in the pen (1593 instead of 1591). Extensive wetness on the second flyleaf, some foxing. The last blank leaf has not been preserved. Hinges rubbed.
