Portrait of the Marquise Jeanne d'Harcourt Gouache on ivory. Half-length portrait, a black lace stole around her shoulders. Signed "Cécile Villeneuve" on the right. Inscribed and dated "Jeanne Paule de St Aulaire Marquise d'Harcourt Paris 1865" by the artist on the inner backing card. 10.4 x 8.5 cm. Original brass table frame, stamped "Alph. Giroux à Paris". Cécile Villeneuve, Paris, 1865. The Parisian writer Jeanne Paule Beaupoil de Saint-Aulaire (1817 - 1893) was married to the French diplomat George Marquis d'Harcourt d'Olonde from 1841. One of her best-known works is the biography "La Vie de Jeanne d'Arc", which she published in 1846. Expert opinion Marketing authorization for ivory is available (DE-S-0498-23).
