Estimate :
1 500 - 2 000 EUR

Portrait of a young lady with pinned roses Gouache on ivory. Half-length portrait turned slightly to the right with a blue ribbon in her curls and a blue fichu. 7.0 x 6.4 cm. Round capsule frame in silver with corded profiles. Attributed to Pierre Adolphe Hall, Paris, 1770s / 1780s. The Swede Pierre Adolphe Hall (1739 - 1793) initially studied medicine and natural sciences at the faculty of Uppsala University, where Carl Linnaeus also worked. It was only after he had settled in Paris that he began to work as a miniaturist. In 1769 he was elected to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture and received commissions from the French royal family. The present miniature of a young woman exemplifies his talent through the fine details, hatching and heightening of white with which he enlivens the subject. Expert opinion Marketing license for ivory is available (DE-S-0494-23). Provenance Leo R. Schidlof Collection, deceased. Christie's Geneva, May 18, 1994, lot 420. Rhenish private collection.
