Augsburg Renaissance tankard
Silver, gilded. The conical body with volute handle on a wide base ring. The wall with flat chased and finely chased scrollwork on a matt ground. The domed hinged lid with corresponding decoration and scrolled thumb rest; crowned by an upright seated lion holding a shield. An engraved alliance coat of arms under the base, heraldically probably the coat of arms of the Valais von Werra family on the right. Marks: BZ Augsburg for 1618 - 1622, MZ Hieronymus Imhof (also: Imhoff, c. 1620 - 1635, Seling no. 0280, 1351), tremolier engraving. H 14 cm, weight 372 g.
