Brooch with large ceylon sapphire 18 ct yellow gold. In the shape of a three-dimensional loop knot, set in the center with a fine natural ceylon sapphire cabochon approx. 15 ct (approx. 16.43 x 13.51 x approx. 6.55 mm) with àjour worked bonding. Can also be worn as a pendant with a hook on the back for attaching to a chain. Not stamped. 2.9 x 3.2 cm. Weight 20.57 g. Circa 1860/70. Expertise Gemstone report no. 037381 of the DSEF (German Foundation for Gemstone Research), Idar-Oberstein, dated 14.4.2024, confirming that the semi-transparent blue stone of the brooch is a natural corundum, variety sapphire, no signs of heat treatment (NTE), origin Sri Lanka.
