Félix Ziem

Estimate :
8 000 - 12 000 EUR

Félix Ziem (1821 Beaune - Paris 1911) - Voiliers et gondole devant les Jardins Français, Venise. Oil on canvas, relined. (18)71. 82.3 x 127.3 cm. Signed and dated lower right. Framed. The Frenchman Félix Ziem painted what the Venetian vedutists around Marieschi, Guardi and Canaletto had been painting since the 18th century: Venice with all its facets. Ziem first came to Venice in 1842 and visited the lagoon city countless times during his long life - no less fascinated by the colorful hustle and bustle on the canals, the architecture and, last but not least, the unique light. A frequent motif is the arrival of sailing boats and gondolas at the moorings of the Jardins Français (today's Giardini della Biennale) on the eastern edge of the Bacino di San Marco. Ziem demonstrates his skill as a brilliant colorist, capturing the shimmering light on the water in a way that delicately transitions to Impressionism. David Pluskwa and Mathias Ary Jan, Association Félix Ziem, Marseille, have confirmed the authenticity of this work (certificate dated 7.3.2024, no. 293/0324). The work will be included in the forthcoming catalog raisonné. Provenance: Privately owned for decades, Southern Germany. Taxation: Differential taxation (VAT: Margin Scheme)
