In 1920 Christian Rohlfs spent an artistically productive period in Mittenwald and Erling near Andechs in Bavaria from the end of June to the end of October (see Paul Vogt, WVZ Aquarelle und Zeichnungen, no. 1920/39-81 and WVZ Gemälde 647 and 648).
