L.A.S. "de Balzac", [Neuchâtel September 29, 1833], to Charles de BERNARD du Grail in Besançon; 1 page in-8, address with postmarks and red wax seal. On Balzac's visit to Besançon (where he will situate Albert Savarus), on his return from his stay in Switzerland, where he met Madame Hanska for the first time. He will have the pleasure of seeing Charles de Bernard again on Wednesday, October 2. "Voulez-vous avoir l'oblige de me retenir une place à la malle pour Paris - Je désir bien vivement que vous avez qlq. quelque chose à me dire de votre plan, si toutes fois vous avez travaillé. - I've been very happy here, I'm very pleased with what I've seen, the country is delicious, but you know that Jupiter has two barrels and that the gods have no favors that are pure". He fears he has "thanked you very little for the good day you have given me; but I hope to prove to you that I am not an ingrate". It will be "a great pleasure to see you again, you who made my trip to Besançon worthwhile and gave me pleasure".
