DAGUERRÉOTYPE. Jean-Baptiste SIMONIN (1785-1870), surgeon. Daguerreotype 1/6 of a plate. 9 x 6, 5 cm view in period frame. Label on verso in brown ink: "J.-B. Simonin père d'Edmond S. Félicie Faye Laure Briot de L." Surgeon Jean-Baptiste Simonin was founder of Nancy's Ecole Préparatoire de Surgery and the Société de Médecine. He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1839. This daguerreotype dates from the same period as an engraving, probably based on this daguerreotype.
