France, Restoration: Officer's saber with battle guard in the style of models 1784 or 1812.
Lightly curved blade with two white polished hollow sides, 945 mm long, point in line with the central gutter, flat back marked "Manufacture Royale de Chatellerault Octobre 1830".
Brass mounting with remains of gilding, short-tailed cap, joint arch joining the guard plate at a right angle, quillon with butt-ends. The openwork guard plate forms a cut-out scallop shell. Four secondary "s" branches. Small secondary guard plate joined to the main joint arch by an "s" branch. Wooden spindle dressed with a double filigree of brass wire in inverted chevron. The oxidized, curved tang rivet testifies to the fact that the blade has never been disassembled.
In a blackened steel scabbard with three brass fittings. The bracelets are foliated. The rings are missing. Long brass bolt with asymmetrical brass sting. The fittings are cut in braces and underlined by two engraved parallel lines.
Oxidation on the blade.
