Kees van DONGEN (1877-1968). The Young Girl with the Swan's Neck or the English Girl. Color print signed in the plate and numbered 1/120 lower right. 1927. Sheet. Width: 37 cm - Depth: 49.5 cm (pasted on a cardboard base, slight foxing, leaf slightly yellowed, numbered in pencil lower left). Bibliography : Juffermans, Kees van Dongen, The complete graphic work, JL 11. During his Fauve adventure at the 1905 Salon d'Automne, alongside Maurice de Vlaminck and Henri Matisse, Kees Van Dongen caused a scandal with subjects and colors deemed outrageous. In 1918, Paul Guillaume organized an exhibition of twenty-five of the artist's paintings, which marked his consecration. After the war, he became an emblematic figure of the Paris of the Roaring Twenties. While women were his favorite subject, everyone wanted to be sketched by the worldly painter: women of the world, women of letters, dancers and actresses all passed under his brush.
