Rare table-guéridon with a portrait of King Louis XV in coronation costume.
Wood, gilt bronze and porcelain plates.
Work in the late 19th century Sèvres style.
Height : 83, diameter : 79 cm.
The round porcelain tray with a celestial-blue background, the slightly recessed center adorned with a large polychrome porcelain medallion depicting King Louis XV in full regalia, based on Van Loo's 1762 painting at Versailles, surrounded by a celestial-blue frieze and gilded ornaments. The patinated and gilded bronze rim is inlaid with a succession of oval medallions painted in porcelain, with the Arms of France at bottom center, around which are seventeen medallions of 17th and 18th century female figures, in a chased frame of acanthus scrolls. They refer to female personalities of royal blood, close to the King: in the lower part, we recognize his wife Marie Leczinska, Queen of France. The triangular blackened wood base is enhanced by gilded bronze stylized with garlands of flowers and acanthus leaves in the neoclassical style. Some wear.
