Fragment of the seated statue of Voltaire.
Voltaire posed for a few hours in 1778 for a bronze statuette exhibited at the Salon of 1779, then sent to the Empress of Russia (replica in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg). The original plaster cast is kept at the Bibliothèque nationale and a replica at the Institut. Voltaire is depicted in the costume of Cincinnatus.
