Four terracotta erbei drinking bowls, China, Han period (206 BC - 220 AD)
Originally covered with a green lead glaze, these ear-shaped bowls have developed a beautiful iridescence over many years of burial.

This form, used for drinking wine, was made in a variety of different materials during the Eastern Han dynasty: bronze, jade, glass, lacquer and, of course, ceramics.
