Albert RAFOLS CASAMADA (1923-2009) Untitled, 1987 Acrylic on kraft paper, signed and dated lower right Height 25 cm; Width: 27 cm (dimensions when viewed) Born into a family of Catalan painters, Albert Ràfols-Casamada learned drawing from his father. He abandoned his training as an architect to learn painting, and the poems he wrote took on new meaning under his brush. He studied in Paris, and traveled to Holland and Belgium. His work, initially figurative, soon moved towards abstraction, influenced by the works of Nicolas de Staël and Joan Miró. He poetically depicts subjects such as the sea and antiquity, enlivened by vivid colors. Some of his works are held in museums such as the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
