[PICARD (Bernard)]. Histoire générale des cérémonies, mœurs et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde Paris, Rollin Fils, 1741. 7 volumes in-folio, contemporary red morocco, richly decorated ribbed spines, red and havana morocco titles and giblets, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, double gilt fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges (a few scratches to the boards, a few shorter plates, a few restorations, a few browned leaves, a few stains). A uniformly bound copy of this famous work, illustrated with a frontispiece and 226 plates. This Paris edition of Religious Ceremonies, somewhat different from the Amsterdam edition published in 1723-1743, was published under the literary direction of Abbé Banier, with the text sometimes entirely taken up again, sometimes simply corrected by Abbé Lemascrier, as well as new dissertations added to the original work. Most of the plates are the same as those in the Hollande edition. Only a few were engraved in Paris by Duflos et al., as were the vignettes. Tome I.
