Magnificent FERAHAN silk carpet (Persia), late 19th century circa 1860
Dimensions : 200 x 140cm.
Technical features : Silk velvet on silk backing.
An elegant oblong ivory field, formed of delicate polychrome floral branches, supports a medallion of brightly colored floral interlacing. Two exuberant purple pendants complete the set, and four purple spandrels with old gold and turquoise lotus flowers frame the whole. Two chestnut counter-borders with garlands of flowers surround the main turquoise border with a succession of exuberant flowers and bovids.
