Between 1912 and 1928 Raoul Dufy was a designer at Bianchini Ferier, a silk weaving mill founded in Lyons in 1888. He created designs for expensive fabrics such as silks and tapestries. The present watercolor dates from this period and probably served as a pattern for a tapestry. - Mounted under passepartout in the upper margin verso, somewhat browned, corners and edges slightly rubbed, with two small, inconspicuous holes in the center.
