Art Brut - Held, Margarethe. Untitled. (Double portrait). Pastel on drawing paper. Monogrammed lower right. Sheet dimensions: 27.5 x 42 cm. Margarethe Held (1894-1981) began to engage in occult practices after the Second World War and the death of her husband. When she tried to get in touch with her late husband, she contacted "Siwa, God of the Indians and Mongols on behalf of the Most High God", according to whose instructions she made hundreds of drawings of the dead, gnomes, fauns, fairies, water gods, hermaphrodites, demons, gods or elves. She signed her early works "Fatima", later her signature consisted of her initials, a horizontal M that merges into an H. - Corners with several small pinholes, slightly creased, slight studio marks. - Enclosed: The automatic message of Margarethe Held from Mettinge.
