ZOLA Émile [Paris, 1840 - id., 1902], French writer.
Autograph letter to Monsieur Maurice de Fleury. Médan, December 30, 1883; 1 1/2 pages in-4°; Signature cut out and therefore missing.
Zola is remorseful for not having replied to Mr. de Fleury's two letters.
"I have a remorse that I must get rid of before the end of this year: the remorse of not having answered you. I found your two letters in my papers, and I want to tell you that I would not indeed have taken on the responsibility of directing your conscience in religious matters; but I want you to know how much your sympathy, so young and so frank, has touched me to the core. It's up to you to make up your own mind; I'm already troubled to have given you the torment of the real thing." Envelope enclosed.
