CURIE Pierre [Paris, 1859 - id., 1906], French physicist. Autograph letter signed. Paris, January 23, 1905; 1 1/2 in-8° pages on letterhead of the Faculté des Sciences de Paris, laboratoire de physique Générale. The letter is pasted on a photo album page. Pierre Curie declines an invitation to be one of the subjects in an experimental program, as he feels too tired for it. "Your experimental program seems to me to be very well understood, the difficulty will consist in carrying it out in a methodical and regular manner. 2 subjects must also be found. I would gladly agree to be one of them, but I'm afraid, given my many occupations, I won't be able to achieve the conditions necessary for regular results. I apologize if we don't accept your very kind invitation, and don't blame you. We're generally pretty tired, and we try to avoid anything that tends to alter our daily way of life." We enclose an autograph letter signed by Victor Schnetz, addressed to Mr. Halevy. 1 page in-8° with address and postmarks, pasted on the photo album page on the back of Pierre Curie. Schnetz asks if he can have a box before the 17th performance for "belles dames".
