David LIPSZYC (1933-2023)
From words to letters, January 4, 1980
Staggered text, silkscreened on altuglass, artist's name and date printed
74 x 74 cm ( at sight ) framed
The artist paints to write, writes to paint, in a process that goes from words to letters, so that it can be said that writing is an art of the gaze.
The artist is conducting a linguistic experiment. Treating elements of the alphabet as simple formal motifs, he intends to verify their impact, to surprise us with their effect, with as much hope as disillusionment.
This text, shimmering like a shard of black ice, white on black or white on white, splits, detriples, crosses and uncrosses with imperturbable logic, discreet graphics on a background of glass and metal in a design atmosphere.
