In 1853 he played a decisive role in the battles of Marignan and Solférino. In 1870 he took part in the siege of Metz. In 1871, he was military governor of Paris. Awarded the Military Medal.
Rare photograph signed with dedication at the verso and autograph letter signed dated Lille, 03.03.1868 to M. de Nayer:"… je dois me rendre prochainement à Paris …”.
