Châssis n°19868 Carte Grise Française 10 000 - 15 000 € / Sans réserve The Ariès brand was founded in 1903 by Baron Charles Petiet, a car enthusiast and future personality in the automotive world. Among other things, he served as President of the Auto Show Committee from 1919 to 1958. The manufacturer quickly became known for its reliable and high-quality products. Ariès sedans were prized for their performance and luxury, often compared to Rolls-Royces. The baron also tried racing, with the famous 3 liter. During the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in 1927, he was on the verge of winning with Laly as pilot. This performance is part of a famous record of the brand during the 1920s. Only 20,000 copies will leave the production lines in 35 years. Faced with financial difficulties in the 1930s, Baron Petiet gave up, refusing to sell the brand, it disappeared in 1938. The Ariès are among the first French left-hand drive vehicles, the Super 10/50 is no exception. The style is refined, classic, but nevertheless of rare elegance. The Ariès that we are presenting to you is remarkable in more than one way. First of all, it is the penultimate Ariès (number 19868) which will leave the factory. In fact, only 41 Ariès Super 10/50 Series C2 (the last model produced) will be manufactured, the last one bearing the number 19870. In addition, it has been in the possession of the descendants of Baron Petiet since the beginning of the 90s. With the desire to bringing back the legacy of their ancestor to life, the car was purchased and immediately completely restored by the Vaillant garage in Franconville in order to be exhibited to highlight the baron's production. It will be cherished for many years, and will punctuate the happy events of the Petiet family. The car is in very good condition, since after its restoration in 1995, very few kilometers were covered. The engine is in perfect working order and the interior is almost "from the factory", the usual checks will be necessary before getting back behind the wheel for long journeys. The chassis has no imperfections or particular rust spots, the woodwork is resplendent, all of the instruments are functional. It is high time to honor Baron Petiet and put this Ariès back on the road. Our Super 10/50 will illustrate the reference book on Ariès, written by Jean Sauvy. The chassis plate and the plate of its first owner, Emile Salmon-Martel, a notable person from La Flèche who owned the famous Hôtel Salmon and whose ancestors worked for the French West India Company.
