Beautiful and rare gilt bronze oval Justice of the Peace badge, on the obverse the Republic standing, around it: "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE", and below it: "UNION. LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ", signed: "MAURISSET", on the reverse, two oak branches and the inscription: "RESPECT A LA LOI". LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ", signed: "MAURISSET", on the reverse, two oak branches and the inscription: "RESPECT A LA LOI"; it is surmounted by an olive branch in chased and gilded brass. This insignia hangs from a large blue, white and red silk long necklace in two pieces, one front and one back, edged in gold passementerie with a serrated baguette; on the front, in the center, a lovely embroidered motif in colored silk: the Tables of the Law marked: "UNITÉ ET INDIVISIBILITÉ DE LA RÉPUBLIQUE - LIBERTÉ - ÉGALITÉ - FRATERNITÉ OU LA MORT" (UNITY AND INDIVISIBILITY OF THE REPUBLIC - FREEDOM - EQUALITY - FRATERNITY OR DEATH), set on a trophy of arms: a lictor beam topped by a red Phrygian cap, six flags, two cannons with cannonballs, a triangle of vigilance with eye and a cockade; medallion height 58 mm, width 43.5 mm, olive branch width 53 mm, saltire width 11.5 cm, length 42 cm. (Some wear to the tricolor fabric). Revolutionary period. Very good condition.
